Acer S7-391: Windows 8.1 Issues & Reverting Back to Windows 8

Howdy y'all, long-time listener, first-time caller etc, etc.

First up, I'm not a total technological luddite, and usually figure things out by myself, so I'm only posting here because I'm utterly confused about something that's probably pretty simple.

First, some context - but feel free to skip to the questions at the bottom, as you probably don't need to know this: I bought an Acer S7-391 with Windows 8 installed back in November - it worked great at first, then I made the mistake of upgrading to Windows 8.1. The first issue was Bluetooth did NOT work - I fixed this though by finding the correct up-to-date driver. Now, the other thing that's bothersome is that maybe 75% of the time when I close my computer down, it seems to close down absolutely fine, but when I go to start it up again the next again day, it looks like it's starting fine, but then I just hear the whirring noise of the fan and that's it. I have to manually hit the off button on the side, it restarts, repairs, takes me back to 'last safe configuration' etc, then it's fine.

Having dug around for a while, I'm aware there's still Windows 8.1 bugs, compatibility issues and so on, so I wish to revert back to Windows 8 for the time-being. The problem is, I didn't actively do anything to store the previous Windows 8 state. So now, for example, when I look at the various system restore points on my machine, it only has them from the date that I upgraded to Windows 8.1 onwards.

My 1st Question: If I do a complete factory reset, will this take my machine back to Windows 8, or Windows 8.1? I know that seems like a silly question, but I've seen some suggestions that say it will only take me back to Windows 8.1, given that I didn't do anything to store W8 before I upgraded to Windows 8.1. But of course, a factory reset suggests it should be Windows 8, given that's what it was in the, well, factory.

My 2nd Question: How do you actually revert to factory, out-the-box settings on Windows 8 - I'm well used to it on Windows 7, XP etc, but I get the impression it's totally different on Windows 8.

Cheers

Q1: Restoring to factory will revert the system back to the originally shipping operating system.

In your case, that would be Windows 8.

Q2: We have made a lot of articles with regard to recovery:
    Reloading your Acer Computer

If that does not take care of your questions, please feel free to let us know what else you may need.
