Aspire M5 481PT sleep issue

Hi

Since last night I'm having an issue with my Aspire M5 481PT not able to go into sleep mode. This is what happens,

When I close the lid the laptop starts going into sleep mode. The power LED indicator briefly cycles orange a couple of times indicating sleep and then immediately wakes up again and performs hibernation. The screen doesn't turn on during this transition from sleep to hibernation.

The laptop sleep function worked well all this time untill last night. I found the laptop switched on inside the carrying case. It's was extremely HOT and the battery was almost empty. I do not know how it's switched itself on inside the bag. I think its ever since then that I'm having this sleep problem.

The laptop came with Windows 8 and I have upgraded it to Windows 8.1. Have also installed all Acer related 8.1 OS drivers.

Any help or suggestions on where to look will be much helpful. Remember the laptop used to work well sleeping and hibernating and no power options or settings have been changed.

Regards.

Instead of attempting to hibernate the system, have you done a complete shutdown and restart?

Use the following steps to perform a complete shutdown:

    1. Press the Windows (Image: icon_Windows8_key.png) key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms.
    2. Click Settings.
    3. Holding down the Shift key, click the Power icon, then Shut down.

    Hi Tommy

Thanks for your reply. Yes I read this tip in another forum and tried it. Doesn't help. The strange thing is that randomly the laptop DOES go into sleep when the lid is closed or the sleep button selected in the Acer power buttons software. This just adds more complications to the issue. Mostly I have noticed the sleep function go straight to hibernation issue at night :-p
