Hi. Ive owned my Acer for a little over a year. Been having some problems. Recently I shipped it out for repair to the fan in November. A few weeks after receiving my laptop the screen turns white. Ive never had this problem untill after it was repaired. I tapped the keyboard a few times and the screen went back to normal. Later it happened again after I moved it to my desk. I tried to close it and restart but the screen was black this time. There's no damage to the laptop and I have not opened it. Its pretty frustrating because it happened shortly after my warranty expired. I do not have the money right now to pay for a laptop I did not damage. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong with it?

Have you tried toggling the Fn + F5 and Fn + F6 video function key combinations to see if the screen turns on and off? Have you tried connecting to a HDMI TV or an external VGA monitor to see if your video adapter is working?

Yeah I tried video function does not work. I dont have an external monitor. Could something have come loose inside my laptop? I only ask because when I tapped my laptop after the screen went white it corrected it for a while. I dont know much about the design so im not sure. There's no way anything inside could be damaged unless it was while It was being repaired.

Yes, it's possible the video ribbon connectors may have to be re-inserted on both the motherboard and screen. You may have to pop off the keyboard to reach the MB connector which you should pull out, then re-insert. The screen lid bezel must come off to reach the screen connector end. Many bezels have 2 screws behind round covers that must be removed near the bottom of the screen. Make sure you pull the battery out before attempting any of this. It would be good if you could pick up an HDMI TV cable from Home Depot or Lowes so you can check that the MB video adapter is OK before diving into this --- the plastic tabs holding the keyboard and most of the screen bezel to the rest of the machine are sometimes a chore to disengage and easy to break. The cables are about $13. Good luck.

Argh. Alright. thanks for replying. I dont think im going to be able to do this repair by myself. I might just shell out the 250$ when I get it. Thanks for your response though.

Be brave, it's really not that hard to do. But before you try this, I would first suggest buying an HDMI TV cable at Home Depot or Lowes and connect the laptop to a TV to see if your graphics adapter is still OK. You may have to toggle Fn + F5 or Fn + F6 keys to turn the TV screen on and off. Don't forget to enable the HDMI input on your TV's remote. If you can see the screen on the TV, then we can proceed with checking the ribbon cable out. Report back with the HDMI TV results
