Restarted my aspire 5733 lap top today. Now it will not boot. The Acer screen comes up, but then it goes to just a blank screen. Is there any way to get it to boot with out losing all my files on the computer?

    Welcome aboard Cherabay.

So far, your power supply, CPU, BIOS chip, monitor cable, and monitor are all working. That's why you reached the Acer screen. Your problem is probably your hard drive.

Try booting into safe mode. You might have to experiment, but rapidly pressing F2 during start-up sometimes works. If you make it, run every anti-malware program you have, doing a deep scan. MAYBE it is a malware problem.

If that doesn't work, try borrowing a legal copy of your operating system on a DVD. Reboot, and MAYBE it will take you to a repair menu.

On the other hand, if your hard drive has failed, you need to take it to a reputable computer shop. You might want to check the prices on new laptops ($250 US for Windows 8, dual-core, two gigs of RAM) first.
