V243HL monitor fails after Windows 8.1 upgrade

I have been using a V243HL monitor successfully as a 1920x1080 external monitor for my Windows 8 laptop for quite a while now - connected via the VGA port.

Recently I upgraded to Windows 8.1, leaving the monitor connected to the VGA port. After the upgrade, the monitor is no longer detected by Windows and appears only as "Generic Non-PnP Monitor" with an unchangeable 1024x768 resolution.

The laptop has an Intel HD4000 graphics adapter and I (now) understand there are some problems with the Intel driver for this adapter under Windows 8.1.

However, when I now connect the monitor to a Windows 8 laptop that hasn't been upgraded, the monitor is not detected by it either.

I am wondering whether the upgrade has somehow affected setttings in the monitor (and the monitor can somehow be reset so it is recognised at least under Windows 8) or whether the monitor is faulty (and the breakdown was entirely co-incidental with the Windows upgrade).

Can anyone help?

All the best

Mark

    Hi Mark

There is no way for the Windows 8.1 upgrade would physically effect your monitor. I agree it may well be coincidental.

You could try to do a reset of your monitor, but this shouldn't make any difference. As you've said, there are still many driver problems with 8.1 -  have you checked to see if there is an updated driver? Also try replacing the VGA cable too.

By the way, did the other laptop that hasn't been upgraded work before?
