My AL2216W monitor won't wake up (stays black)

I have my AL2216W monitor as a 2nd monitor for my MacBook Air.  For the last week or so, when I put my computer to sleep and then wake it up the Acer remains black.  It does give a brief 'flash' and the power light is green so I know it's on power.  After I poke at it for a bit (e.g., doing things that cause my screens to refresh such as switching between Spaces) it has (so far) eventually come up.  But this is taking longer and longer ... sometimes 5 minutes of such jiggling.

 

Is the monitor dead (going dead) or is there something else I should try?

Does it only have problems in that configuration? Does it work if you set it up on a different computer as the primary monitor? If it does the same thing, I would contact Acer and see about repair.
