Aspire M - sleep/start up issues

When I shut down my computer, or it goes in sleep mode, it has problems starting back up.  I have to push the power button and then it takes me to keyboard layout and then I have to select to log into windows.  It then takes anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute to log on.  Doesn't happen all the time.  Just about 95% of the time....  I have tried putting it into sleep mode myself and waiting forever to close the lid.  Tried shutting down and then restarting.  Nothing.  Tech had me reset my bios to default but that did nothing and I never, nor another program, altered the bios.  Anyone know what the issue is?

It is helpful to let the community know the following:

What specific computer model do you have?
What operating system is on the computer?

Do you have any error messages?

    Aspire M5-583P on Windows 8.1

No error messages.  When I close the lid, or put it to sleep manually, after a couple of hours it appears to crash.  When I go to start it up I have to hit the power button.  It then takes me to the keyboard layout selection and then you have a couple of options to start windows, shut down, or do system repair.  This is also happening when I try to shut down the PC.  It doesn't appear that it shuts down even though the screen goes off.  When I restart then the same thing happens.  So pretty much everytime I use my computer now I have to go through all this and it takes about a minute to start and get going.

I have downloaded all the updated drivers for Windows 8.1 and haven't installed anything on this computer.  This happened prior to the update to 8.1 as well so I haven't tried unistalling it.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

powering off completely is also not working.  Screen goes black and it appears to shut down but when I got to start up it is the same issue.  Pretty much the computer appears to be crashing in sleep and shutdown hence the startup issues.

How long are you waiting for the system to go into sleep/hibernation?

It's not immediate and can take 10-15 seconds.  If power is removed during the process if could definately affect it.

As you do not have any additional data on the system, I would suggest returning the system to the original factory load and attempting this again, without Windows 8.1.  Ensure that it works on the shipping OS first.

If you continue to have issues, it may be helpful to contact your local Acer service center.

Restored my computer to factory settings and removed windows 8.1.  Still not working.  Will not sleep or shut down correctly. Nothing installed.  At a breaking point and regret buying this now.

Per your questions I have tried the following:

    Shutting lid

manually selecting sleep and then closing lid

manually selecting sleep and then waiting till lights go out

manually selecting sleep and then waiting for at least a minute

    Same for trying shut down.

So I have a computer that wasn't cheap that has issues everyday.
