Non-UEFI bios

I have an Aspire A5600U All-in-one PC and want to replace the hard drive, which is slow and sluggish, with an SSD.  Swapping the drives out should be no real problem, however, the UEFI bios means that cloning the old hard drive will be pretty difficult.

There is a BIOS listed on Acer's support site (version P01.A0).  I've read that an attempt to cross-grade to that was unsuccessful (http://www.pcworld.com/article/2043557/review-acers-aspire-u-model-a5600u-ub13-is-a-stylish-aio-with-a-few-minor-flaws.html  Has anyone got experience of moving from a UEFI BIOS to a non-UEFI BIOS with any kind of success ?  I'm happy to give that a try, but would appreciate any advice or experience on that prior to attempting it.

Thanks in advance.
