Hi all, I bought this laptop off my girlfriend's brother so that I wouldn't have to lug my heavy Alienware M17x R3 to school anymore (I ride a bicycle to school).  Only upgrades are a Crucial M4 SSD 128gb and 8gb ram (see below).   I have a graphics question:

Is it okay (or necessary) to install the latest generic Intel driver 15.xx over the 8.15 driver that is the "latest" acer driver?

Also, I was reading that people were unable to install 8gb ram and have the laptop work properly.  Some stated that it wouldn't even start and others said that the resource monitor showed ~5gb being "hardware reserved".  Crucial claims that these can handle 8gb, so I took the 8gb out of my girlfriend's laptop (which came from my alienware after upgrading to 16gb) and it booted up, BIOS saw the ram, Ccleaner saw the ram, control panel system saw the ram, but I had the issue with "hardware reserved".  So, I found that going to msconfig>boot>advanced options and unchecking "maximum memory" fixed it, and voila!  it worked!  So it is possible to get 8gb ram on these (in my case anyway).  Hopefully that will help some people.  Make sure the ram is seated deeply in each slot too!

    Hi there,

Realize that the thread is a bit old.

It should be safe to install the latest driver.

With regards to the RAM, would you know off chance the specs of the RAM that you installed into the 1830T. I've been having the experience (painful to be honest), of the RAM showing up in the BIOS but the system rebooting when I reach 'Starting Windows'. It boots just fine with my original 2x2GB (4GB) original SODIMMs.

    Would love to know !
