Acer Aspite M5-481T Timeline Ultra - battery issue?

I was recently given a M5-481T laptop. I do not believe there is any warranty on it.

 

It seems to have a problem with what I think is the battery.

 

It appears the battery is charged (blue light), but if I unplug it from an AC power source, it shuts off and doesn't run on battery power.

 

At one times I also get a 'battery not detected' message. Despite a blue light on the battery showing full charge.

 

I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, but it hasn't resolved the problem.

 

I can replace the battery if necessary, I have done it on other vendor laptops that were out of warranty, but since that appears to be a lot of trouble on this laptop, I was wondering if there might be something else I am overlooking.

 

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It sounds very much like this:

It may be that there is a screw loose enough to break the contact necessary for the battery.
