Murray, my first response it to take it back to the store while it's still under their warranty.

However, can you get onto the Desktop? Were you able to register the machine? If you can get to the Desktop, install the free Classic Shell program to get a Start Button. Then do a deep scan with your antivirus. Then install the free Malwarebytes program and do a deep scan.

If none of that works, you definitely need to take it back.

    Hi murryn!

What version of Windows are you running? Does it work OK except for the start menu?

Post back and I'll see if I can help further.

Try here for some help with a blank Windows 8 start screen.

If that fails, backup all your data and reinstall Windows - that should solve the problem. If it doesn't, then as Vince53 said, return it back to the store as it is still under warranty.
