Windows update problems

Hi, I have a D250-1986 netbook with windows 7.  It will no longer allow me to use "windows update".  I get the error code 80070005.  The last time it updated was in February of this year.

I thought if I tried to restore the computer to that date or before that date I might be able to fix the problem.  Unfortunately, I can't restore it back that far.

My understanding is that the code 80070005 is pretty general, I believe it has something to do with not being recognized as the Administrator.

I have tried everything that I know of.  Using a computer is fairly easy for me, however I'm not that good with the nuts and bolts.

Does anyone have ideas?  When I'm on the internet, it continues to crash.

Thanks very much in advance !!!

The error code 80070005 is an Access Denied message, and can be caused by anti-virus software that is preventing Windows Update from overwriting the file.

Disable all your AV/malware protection software you have installed, and try to update again. If in fact this is the culprit, remove your existing A/V software and install Microsoft Security Essentials. It's just as good and free as well.
