Help Problems reinstalling Windows 7

Hello

I am trying to reinstall windows 7 on my friends desktop, it is an acer aspire m3910. The installation goes all the way to the point where it says expanding files and it is on 0%, after a little while a message pops up saying "Windows cannot install the required files.Make sure all the required files for installation are available, and restart the installation."

Things I have tried:
I have hooked his harddrive to my pc and the installation went fine by using my hardware. So his harddrive is not broken. And the installation cd does work.

I read something on another website concerning this problem and they suggested that I remove all but one ram stick and try installing windows while swapping into different ram sockets.

Plz help me I am kinda running out of ideas

  • Was there an issue with the machine which prompted the reinstall?

If it was simply a 'clear out' exercise and the machine was OK previously then it is highly unlikely that a hardware failure is the problem.

You may wish to 'reset' the BIOS to setup defaults. From there, I would also totally clear HDD of any and all partitions and allow the installation to prepare the disk from scratch.
