Having problems with Aspire One725-0826 and Win8.1

Have the above Netbook with Win8 x64. I recently install the Win8.1 "upgrade". Bizarre things starting to appear. For one DXDIAG crashes with a Direct3D problem. Checked the driver downloads. Installed pretty much all the Win8,1 updated drivers. Unfortunately there is no new video driver so I installed the one in windows 8.0 (VGA_AMD_8.982.9.0000_W8x64_A.zip).

Another bugaboo is the screen-saver choices which now only allow the blank screen. Anything else and crash.

I, for fun, installed World of Tanks on it and it ran under Win8, no longer works under 8.1.

What is odd is that DirectX is 11 while "apparently" 11.1 and 11.2 exist. How do I get that?

Don't get me wrong, on the whole it works, just it looks like there is a video driver issue. Did not see a new Win8.1 driver update, neither here nor ATI.

When I re-installed the Win8 VGA driver from the site it was OK once installed. Later, after a reboot, all of a sudden the AMD Catalyst Control Center will no longer load and keep getting software problem and asking me to close the program.

Anyone have this same problem?

Thanks

I appreciate you including the specific versions of the drivers that you have installed or attempted to utilize.

If the system works under Windows 8, I would suggest not upgrading to Windows 8.1 until some of the driver issues have been resolved.   If you are having issues under Windows 8.1, it may be advisable to return to Windows 8.

We are continually monitoring these threads and compiling the driver issues for Acer and Microsoft.

You seem to realize that 8.1 is not really an upgrade-MS said that for tax purposes. It is a complete operating system, and when you installed it, you deleted all your Acer drivers. 8.1 has many generic drivers, and that's what your laptop is now using. With a desktop, this will often work, but laptops are fussier.

My advice is to try to go back to your original factory settings. If you can't, 8 and 8.1 are so similar that the 8 drivers should work. If all else fails, and Device Manager cannot find a good driver, there are other free driver locators on the web. ALWAYS SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING DIVERS. The problem here is that depending on your machine, operating system, and order of installation, different programs will select different drivers--that's why you always set a System restore Point first.

Thanks for the info but I resolved my problem. The problem was the Win80 driver from ACER website. It made the mess. I went to Device Manager, clicked on the video card and said to update driver. It found one, updated it. After that Win8.1 worked like a charm INLCLUDING DxDiag, the screen saver and the game that was not working after the Win8.1 upgrade.
