Aspire V7-482PG Trackpad and keyboard freeze and no reboot possible

Hey guys and gals,

I have recently bought an Aspire V7 482PG 54208G52tii and have a problem...

After getting it I installed the Windows 8.1 update which caused Wifi not to work at home so following the advice of

an Acer Tech, I ran the recovery utility to restore it to windows 8. I installed my usual apps:

- Comodo firewall

- Avast

- SolidWorks

- Office 2013

- Adobe CS6 master collection

- Firefox

- Thunderbird

- Microtorrent

- CCleaner

- 3Dmax 2014

- Samsung allshare

- Fruity loops

The thing is, after running on and off for a day or so, suddenly the keyboard and trackpad freeze... A reboot doesn't help as I don't get beyond the Acer logo (the loading 'dots' to the bottom of the screen don't appear). Only after pressing the reset button at the bottom of the laptop, does the laptop fully reboot. Only for the keyboard and trackpad to freeze again maybe 5 to 10 minutes after logging in.

Actions taken:

- Bios updated to the lates version

- Return laptop to factory settings

- Thinking it was Allshare or 3Dmax (the raysat server maybe), run the laptop without.

- Run it without Fruity loops

It has had no effect... Still the problem persists and I have a mind to return it to the shop I bought it at. Can anyone help me before I do so?

Thanks,

Remco

    Hi remboman!

The changes made by Microsoft in Windows 8.1 have caused issues with some drivers. Firstly check the Acer Support site to see if an updated driver is available.

Alternatively, reverting back to 8.0 (for now) will help - just remember to backup first!

    Hi finlux...

Thanks but the problem isn't related to 8.1 but came after reverting back to 8.0... 5 to 10 minutes after logging in: trackpad and keyboard freeze (see rest of 1st post). I keep all my stuff on a separate partition by the way so no need to back up Smiley Wink

    Thanks,

    Remco

    Ah, I see!

Best to pay a visit to Acer support, as it is still under warranty to see if they can help!

    Good luck!

    Hi Finlux,

Solved! It was a driver issue. I have an old usb soundcard which I tried to install but couldn't get to work...

    Thanks,

    Hi,

With my wife's new laptop Aspire V7-582PG     (Yes:  582PG )

I experienced exact the same, a few days ago:

"the keyboard and trackpad freeze... A reboot doesn't help as I don't get beyond the Acer logo (the loading 'dots' to the bottom of the screen don't appear). Only after pressing the reset button at the bottom of the laptop, does the laptop fully reboot. Only for the keyboard and trackpad to freeze again maybe 5 to 10 minutes after logging in."

Only with me the keyboard and trackpad freezed after logging in and then during the 'starting up of the profile'

This happened after I installed the free COMODO FIREWALL after removing the pre-installed Mcafee (which has a working period of 60 days).

I also used the pin method on the bottom of the laptop.

After reboot I managed to uninstall Comodo, rebooted and everything was normal.

Then again downloaded the free COMODO FIREWALL again, in case the file was corrupted before.

Then twice followed the same procedure with the same result.

I can reproduce problem, so I needed another firewall.

Now I left Comodo on this laptop and installed Zonealarm.

I'm curious what soundcarddriver you updated, which ended the problem ?

    Do you still use Comodo?

BTW: V7-582PG was before updated to Win 8.1

    Hi,

Ok... I never expected that Comodo could be the problem but I was on Holiday recently and the same problem occurred again.

I reinstalled evrything (including Comodo) and it gave me the same troubles agin (eventhough I had run Comodo for two months without mishap). So it probably had nothing to do with the soundcard driver (it's an old audigy USB. I tried Windows XP 64 bit and afterwards a win 7 driver on the laptop). But always installed the firewall the last (because of messages that sprang up all the time).

    Cheers,

    Hi,

I have the v7 582pg and have the same problem. No, actually it is even worse and it is definitely related to the combo of Comodo and the Acer laptop. In my case, besides the freezing issue, the laptop will even not boot anymore and I have to apply the battery reset option to get it going again. I installed Comodo immediately after having used recovery and updating the bios and the problems started immediately. First time I had this problem I sent my laptop back to Acer and they replaced the hdd. They never told me about the reset button. So, my laptop is currently reinstalling factory settings again and I guess I have to use a different virus scanner that doesn't cause this issue. This is bad though. Either from Comodo or from Acer that this isn't solved. I have seen several discussions on the internet about this in the meantime, but obviously, the issue is not known at the service desk in The Netherlands, nor has it been solved in the meantime.
