faded sn / snid numbers

Hi Everyone,

 

I'm trying to call Tech support for a screen problem issue (the screen would flicker on and off, but would stay on after mashing the fn F5 button, but now that doesn't work and the screen is just black), but I've had my laptop for about 4/5 years now and the SN/SNID number barcode has faded away,

 

Is there any way of getting through tech support without having the SN/SNID number?

It seems that the computer is out of warranty (since it is 4/5 years old). The tech support might not be available for out of warranty units.

You would be better off with a new(er) PC. That old is probably XP which is no longer supported anyway. Do you have backups ? If not there is a good chance you can pull the hard drive, but an USB adapter, and connect it as a slave to retrieve your data.
