MIcrosoft Starter no longer recognized as office product?

I can no longer open files directly from a saved document in word and excel as my computer is not recognizing them as a word/excel doc and is claiming that I do not have the programs.  I have tried "open with" and both excel/word do not show up in the listed options.  Instead I have to open Word or Excel then open the file thru the program.  Does anyone have a fix to this annoying problem?

    Hi meganb_54

If your office documents are not opening with the correct program. Right click the one you wish to open, and select "Open with.." then select "Choose Default Program" option. If Word or Excel are not listed, select "Browse". This will open your program files. You may need to open the program files (x86) folder if it is a 32 bit version of Office. Do this by clicking the C: drive folder (which is usually called ACER). Find your Microsoft Office folder then open it.

Inside that folder, there will be another called Office 12 - that's what mine is called, but I'm using Office 2007 - yours may be different. Inside that folder you will find the files WINWORD & EXCEL. Click on the relevant one. This will now be listed in the box on the screen. Ensure that the "Always open.." bit is checked. Repeat the process for other Office documents.
