    Hi metal_benji

When you switch on the laptop, do you hear the Windows start up sound? Does the hard drive light flash (as normal)?

Or is there no sound or hard drive activity?

Ok. Did you ever hear the start up sound before it became faulty?

It might be that the connector cable to the monitor has worked loose, if it is still under warranty contact Acer support. If it is outside of warranty take it to your local PC store.

Because you have hard drive activity, that pretty much rules out motherboard failure.

Yes had the start up sound all has been fine for a long time. Not under warranty but was hoping for easy fix before i resorted to opening it up and checking the connection. Is this the whole black screen of death acer seem to have suffered from in the past?

It might be, but I think the "Black screen of death" is usually a BIOS problem.

Let us know how you get on!

Benji, I realize that money doesn't grow on trees, but opening your laptop requires skill, training, and tools that most people don't have. Before you take it to a reputable computer shop, there is a fix-it that SOMETIMES works. If you have a loose monitor cable (and I think that you do) this will not work.

Borrow a legal copy of your operating system, install it in the DVD drive, and reboot. It should take you to a repair screen. If it does, your problem is not with your monitor or your monitor cable. If it does not, you need to take it to a computer shop.
