Unable to update Windows 7 - 64 bit for my Aspire 7745.

My laptop keeps trying to install the most recent update, then has to revert the changes. Is my OS corrupted? If so how do I access the partitioned area to re-install the OS or make a windows 7 installation disk?

    Hi Longevity!

Your OS may not be corrupted, but your Windows updates may be! To try to clear this:

    1. Go to Services - type "services" in your start menu & click it. Search for Windows Update, right click then select Stop.

    2. Open My Computer & Click the C: drive to open it. Then click the Windows folder. Scroll down to the SoftwareDistribution folder, open in & delete all contents.

    3. Restart your computer.

    4. Once restarted click Windows Update in the start menu & click, Search for Updates in the left hand pane.

    5. Windows will then re-download updates, including the ones that are failing

If this fails to solve the problem, try System Restore to date when there was no update problems.

It would be a great idea to make your own recovery disks too, incase your hard drive ever fails (or you upgrade it):

Start Menu>All Programs>Acer>Acer>Acer eRecovery Management then click on Create Factory Default Disk. This usually takes 3 blank DVD's. Follow the on screen instructions. Once complete, create drivers & application disk. This will take one blank DVD

To access your recovery partition, press ALT & F10 when you see the Acer screen when you start your computer. Alternatively, select the restore option in the left pane of eRecovery.

Just make sure to back up all your data first!
