Acer Aspire 7551 Can not install windows

Hello there.

I have an Acer Aspire 7551-7422 laptop that I recieved seccond-hand, and naturally one of the things I like to do is do a fresh installation of Windows 7 before use.

Well, in the installation process on Windows 7, it tells me "Windows can not configure Windows to run on this hardware" and a windows XP disk ends up crashing to blue screen.

I have read about the SATA mode not being supported by the windows install disk. I have experimented with that mode in the bios, with no luck. I have also tried the SP1 install of Windows 7 as well and still it has failed. Also, having read that drivers are often an issue, I put the drivers for the HDD, graphics, and a few other things on a flash drive, but the windows 7 installation does not detect the drivers at all for installation, though it is able to brouse the flash drive's file system.

Using a linux live boot CD works just fine, and can brouse the hard drive, or what little of it an incomplete windows instalation leaves on the drive. I'm fairly cirtain that there is not any hardware failiure.

I'm not sure what's going on, but any help is appreciated. Thank you
