I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Driver does not work and can't seem to find correct driver. As such, the wireless adapter is not working. Suggestions?

    Hi mgkassis

I presume you have looked on the Acer support site for the driver for your AT3-600?

I have checked the Qualcomm site, and it looks like the AR5BW222 is no longer supported. However I found this unofficial site here and it claims to have drivers for Windows 7 Pro, but for the model AR5BWB222.

Please take caution before downloading & installing - make sure you're fully backed up just in case of problems. When you download the file, right click and scan it with your anti virus software as a precaution. There is still no guarantee it may not crash your system, so just be prepared!

Alternatively, I would recommend you update your wireless adaptor to one that is compatible and comes with its own driver. They are not too expensive.

Again, please take caution if you're planning to download & install the driver from the "unofficial" site.

Been to that site. All bait waiting for a bite. Don't go there.

Purchasing new, current adapter is the best solution.

Quesion: As a manufacturer, how do you recycle your outdated merchandise?

Answer: Dump it into a cheap product and let the consumer do it for you (and make you some profit along the way).

    Thanks.

I thought that site looked dodgy!

I like your comment on outdated merchandise, all true I think....!

    Good luck anyway.

The website http://www.atheros.cz is 100% legit. you can verify this simply by googling atheros.cz complaints or atheros.cz legit. If you do you would come up with pages like this:

    http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/atheros.cz

    or

    http://www.scamadviser.com/is-atheros.cz-safe.html

    or

    http://www.scamvoid.com/check/atheros.cz

All of which will tell you that the site 100% legit, 100% safe. Simply because the is based in the Czech Republic does not in any way mean its a malicoius website. besides you can verify that the download is safe by having it scanned by virustotal.com which scans the files with 47 virus engines.

This is a link to the driver you need from atheros.cz:

    http://download2.dvd-driver.cz/atheros/drivers/ar5xxx/win7-10.0.0.255-whql.zip

This is a link to the virustotal.com analysis of that driver download which shows that 0/47 virus scanner detected that file as malicious...

    https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/39ad900ec03130c88799fa4cc5f46e7430226047d3792d1507fd7ac0751923f5/analysis/

You guys should try it yourselves, its a fun little exercize, you might actually learn something along the way, like not to stereo type a website or people just because its in a foreign country, I'll bet if that website had a .com or .net top level domain instead of a .cz TLD you wouldn't have thought twice about it. I'm sure the guys running that website would love to have the .com TLD, however Atheros.com is already taken by, umm, Atheros, so they had to go with something different...

PS you can also use the AR9462 driver for your device, it works splendid, the reason why? because the wireless chip used in the AR5BWB222 is actually an AR9462 chip, and, when combined with the Atheros BT 4.0 chip it becomes the AR5BWB222.

In case you're still not convinced and would prefer to download the drivers from a more well known source, you can download them from Asus, they aren't the most recent drivers, however, they're certainly stable. And they're new enough that Asus doesn't see the need to go through the trouble to qualify the newer version to replace these.

    [edited to comply with guidelines]

If you have any previos drivers installed, uninstall them prior to installing these drivers just to be safe.

This stuff really isn't that hard, its only as hard as you make it, it only takes a second to verify the legitimacy of a website, and it doesn't take much longer to find drivers for common pieces of hardware. It took me longer to type this message then it did to find the info and links i posted in this message.

Google is your friend and when searching for something put as few words as poosible in your search term to find what you need. Remember every word you add to your search terms reduces the number of results you'll get. So searching for "Aspire AT3-600 Qualcomm AR5BW222 Windows 7 Drivers" will get you a hell of a lot fewer and less useful links then just simply searching for "AR5BWB222 driver" you may have to sift through links for linux and win8 drivers to find the win7 drivers, but you can be asured that every website that has those drivers available will be included in the search results, or at least pages with links to the drivers.

Whereas most of what you say is absolutely correct, neither myself or the OP was insinuating that because the site is located in the Czech Republic it is malicious. There are a lot of "driver sites" online that contain incorrect drivers and yes, even viruses and malware!

I use MANY websites that are not based in my home country - where they are based has ABSOLUTELY no effect on whether I use  them or not - however the TYPE of site certainly makes me cautious.
