Hi! So, I am thinking about on updating my really old laptop (which is a 4920G way back from 2008) to Windows 8.1 32bit. Can I update my laptop without any drivers and stuff? I know this is ridiculous but Acer Support doesn't have the drivers for Windows 8. Smiley Sad

    Hi thatcoolkid!

It may be possible that the Windows 7 drivers will work on Windows 8, but it is a case of "try it & see", I'm afraid! Use a program like Speccy or Belarc Advisor to see what the components are (LAN/Wireless/Touchpad ETC) & then try the manufacturers support site to see if they do a Windows 8 driver for it.

Welcome aboard, KoolKid. I advise you not to do it.

Yes, you will erase all your Acer drivers. There are no drivers for Windows 8 on your model because your model is not designed to run Windows 8. I'm not sure what your operating system is, but XP is the queen of the 32 bit operating systems. Windows 7 & 8 can function with 32 bit, but they are not designed for it. If you find drivers, they will not be designed for Windows 8 AND your system.

Incidentally, you might want to take look at the prices on new laptops. A bottom of the line, dual-core, 2 gigs of RAM, Windows 8 machine can often be found for less than $250, and it will still have a warranty.
