S242HL Brightness

I am unable to adjust the brightness (or any other display issues).  To the right of the power button on the bottom of this monitor, there are five unlabeled buttons. The fourth of these buttons takes me only to a monitor icon, but I don't seem to have further navigational controls.  No keys on my keyboard work with this menu.  I have reviewed the user manual, but it refers to buttons that are not present on this monitor (Minus/plus, Menu/OSD, Auto, and e).

You should know that no peripheral controllers (mouse, keyboard, etc.) can control the menu on a monitor. They are all directly plugged into your computer, which in turn displays the correlating image on the monitor...but in no way is the keyboard or mouse connected directly to the monitor.

It's most unfortunate that the buttons are not labeled, but rest assured, they should be sufficient in opening and navigating the monitors configuration, as that is the only reason they even exist. The buttons listed in the manual (minus, plus, menu, etc.) are likely the same buttons near the power button, but if they are unlabeled and the manual doesn't specify which are which, in may be difficult to figure out exactly which ones do what. 'Menu' should open up the monitors menu (relatively small square in the bottom right, most likely) and may help you navigate through the various tabs, where 'auto' can likely serve as an 'exit' button for that menu, and the 'plus and minus' buttons should both also serve in helping navigate through the menu. 'e' may bring up a more user-friendly menu filled with pre-set settings that could also help with your problem, but with all of these buttons and all Acer monitors, there are unfortunately some slight differences between them, so it's hard for me to directly help you as I don't personally own a S242HL. Hope I at least helped a little...
