hey all

allow me to share a problem and solution with you

after a certain windows 8 update you can experience malfunction of touch screen. rootcause: likely windows universal touch screen driver incompatible with w3.

solution:

0. connect usb mouse

1. download original w3  driver pack, e.g. here http://www.acer.de/ac/de/DE/content/drivers

2. extract from zip

3. run setup. if the setup from the top directory doesn't work (empty err msg) goto directory MI and run setup from there.

4. restart and enjoy touch screen again

5. switch off automatic windows update

6. according to my experience with win 8.1 the problem is solved there and windows updates don't disable the touch screen

    a) Where you get the driver pack depends on where you are. I'd suggest starting at support.acer.com and select the proper country.

    b) I throw around a lot of OS's on different media. My experience is that when you load a new OS (say WTG 8.1 on a 120GB SSD, very little works and you really need a USB keyboard and mouse. Next you need to load the Acer/Intel driver pack and that gets most of the hardware working (cannot even find the SD card so need to have in a flash drive).

Once that is loaded then you can look for the tools like the clear.fi suite.

I have U$10 keyboard cases for both my W510 and W3 (7" case fits better than 8")

My belief is that just as notebooke/netbooks replaced desktop devices, tablets are going to replace everything. It is just a matter of having the right peripherals.

And in that vein, I would think that tablet bundles would make a lot of sense. Essentials like adapter cables for USB and HDMI, stylus, a powered hub, DVD/Bluray, keyboard case, and a mouse.
