Dead HD New HD

Ok before I pitch this 'puter across the room, I'll ask you folks about this. I have a Aspire 7740-5029 that the HD failed on me. I had made system recovery disks and I just bought a WD 500GB Sata 3Gb/s Mainstream HD. All went well as far as the recovery disks loading but just after W7 posted for the first time, the screen said Windows is "starting services" and then I'm getting an error saying that W7 failed to install/restart computer. When I let it restart, same error and so on. The Toshiba drive it came with is no longer available so now what. I really hate to spend money I really don't have for a new laptop. Any ideas?

Welcome aboard, David. I understand your frustration, but there's still hope. Please don't throw your rig across the room, as it is a good computer that is simply suffering the normal effects of age.

When you replaced the hard drive, you loaded your original operating system correctly. Unfortunately, your original OS doesn't include the drivers for your new hard drive. You can try to download the drivers from the manufacturer, remembering that Acer is not responsible for non-Acer software, and give it another try. Or, since you already paid for a good hard drive, take the whole thing to a reputable computer shop and explain what happened. For a small fee, they can install it for you.

Hi there and thanks for the reply. I've been looking for drivers for this drive and can't seem to find anything but clone software. If I do find the drivers, how would one install the drivers if windows is not installed yet?
