Reset to sell

Acer is a great machine.  However, I have had mine for about a month and would very much like to sell it (It's a windows 8 thing, it sucks; not a problem with Acer).  Should I ever buy windows again, I will definately buy an Acer.  How do I 1.  Reset it to factory condition and 2. Would the new purchaser be able to transfer my waranty that I registered with Acer?

David, may I make two suggestions first?

    1) Go to  he Windows Start Page and drag the tile for Desktop to the top left corner. Now you only have to press Enter to go to the Desktop.

    2) From the Desktop, download and install the free Classic Shell Start Button. This will make Windows 8 run like 7 or XP.

I have 7 & 8 on the same hard drive, and I like them both. But 8 boots up faster, runs more smoothly, and has far more good aps that 7.

Oh thanks, I'll give that a shot.  Not sure what windows is thinking.  I wanted a laptop, not a OS for a tablet that I have to use on a laptop.  Big time FAIL for windows. I am ready to drop a grand on a new Apple all ready, they never change.

I was glad to help, Dave. MS's decision to eliminate the Start Button on Windows 8 has to be one of the worst decisions ever made. It has turned countless people against a good operating system.

    Hi Guys,

Just so you know, Windows 8.1 launches on the 18th of October. One of the changes they've made is the restore the start button (not menu) among other things.

For the record, if you're looking to do a reset you can follow the steps on this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc under "To reset your PC"

I agree with Vince 100%, these radical changes have cost Microsoft a large number of supporters. It's a good system for a tablet, which obviously they're pusing as they now have their own hardware. The idea is to force your crowd to adopt your hardware and eliminate the middle man. Tablets are great but some people still like their notebooks and desktops, Windows 8 is not a desktop OS at all.
