Hello,

I have bought a ASPIRE V5, but since it was the last available device at mediamarkt (the display model), the Factory settings were already accessed. Now Iam not able to make changes like language setup, account setup and so on. If I do the factory setup it says I will be losing some applications and data. Will I be losing the factory applicatios such as the NVDIA drivers and softwares? or any other pre-installed software and drivers?? Kindly help me with this issue. Is it safe to perform a factory reset?

Thank you

    Hello AnandGali!

It will be perfectly safe to perform a factory reset - just make sure that any documents/pictures are backed up beforehand, else you'll lose them.

You will not lose any drivers - they'll be re-installed as part of the recovery process. The nVidia driver may be an older one, but you can easily upgrade the driver at the nVidia website or even via Windows updates.

If you installed any new programs, you will need to re-install them after recovery.

    Other than that, go ahead!

    Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I did a restore and had no problem with it. But now it seems the problems do not want to leave me in peace. I am receiving a BLUE SCREEN saying "MACHINE_CHECK_ERROR" and it does not proceed further. I took the device to mediamarkt with hopes to get some help from them. But they replied that since its a software problem they cannot help me with it and it does not cover under warranty.

Iam receiving this problem since I installed some Windows updates and when it asked for a restart. Then the blue screen occurs and stays. I am not sure if I am the only one with the same problem or if anyone else does have the same. Mediamarkt person says to turn off the updates and not to install any. But my question when Windows in this device being Genuine why am I getting this problem of "BLUE SCREEN" with the updates? Whom should I contact for problems related to this?

Kindly help me with this. And I really thank you for your valuable replies. It helped me a lot.

    Hello again AnandGali!

Sorry to hear you're not having much luck with your V5...

I believe a MACHINE_CHECK_ERROR, usually refers to an hardware error, and not a software one. Can anyone else advise on this? Can you let us know what the STOP codes that are displayed on the BSoD are? They're the numbers that start 0x00000000 or similar.

If you truly believe that a Windows update caused it, re-install Windows again (sorry!). Do not use Windows update for a short time to see if it happens again.

I must add though, It isn't recommended not using Windows Updates, but as a way of finding out the problem, temporarily not installing them will be OK.

    Hello Again,

Yes that was also the solution given by the mediamarkt person. That if there is any problem always to reinstall the Windows. But as of now I have put the updates into "Check but do not install mode".

And I agree that MACHINE_CHECK_ERROR must be a hardware problem. But may be the mediamarkt person did not know about it and he said it is a Software error. Now I do now know whom to contact regarding this problem. As of now my plans are to make a backup recovery of all the drivers, and if at all I get a blue screen again then to reinstall the whole of Windows. I hope that should work for me.

I would definitely like to know if is receiving same or similar kind of problem and has found a way out of it? Please post with your answers and solutions.

    Thank you again.

If the Blue Screen's are still being received, I would take it back to mediamarkt for a repair.

    Good luck anyway!
