Monitor problem

Hi, I'm a new member and no doubt this query has come up many times but I am travelling and no time to search around. I have the familiar problem where my monitor has quit. I have previously resurrected it by holding the power button for 50 sec. and that worked fine. On an older Aspire One I had to update the BIOS and that worked fine. However the monitor on my present machine  (Model 522 Windows 7) does not respond to either of these two fixes. I am presently connected to an external mionitor so I know that it is the same monitor problem that I have had success with before. Does anybody know if there is something else I can do to get the monitor to come to life again. Thanks John
