If the computer was shipped with windows 7 and was upgraded to windos 8, you would have the option to restore the computer to windows 7 from the eRecovery partition.

Use the following steps to start the system recovery:

    1. Restart the computer.
    2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt, and the F10 keys.
    3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
    4. After the Acer eRecovery Management application has loaded, select your restore type.
    5. Read the notice, and then click Next when you are ready.
    6. Click Next to begin the restore process.
  • If you find that recovery data is not available, you would need to acquire a Win7 DVD.
It is not a difficult process but you do need to take reasonable care. I have posted on the subject.
There are a number of other excellent posts here all of which will guide you through but read all you can find as some are incomplete.

If this is part of the Gateway deal, you would think that there would be a special thread here since Acer bought Gateway in 2007.

If it has a SNID: lablel (11 digits with a zero as the fourth) or serial number (longer and has alphas) you should be able to go to support.acer.com select the eRecovery tab, and order recovery media for about U$20.00
