microsoft virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter Driver Problem

I have an Acer Aspire 5741 running Windows 7 and I have had problems with the Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter almost from Day One.  We have tried multiple fixes and gotten nowhere.  The computer frequently drops the internet and/or network connection and troubleshooting leads to "reset the ...adapter".  Recently, the error message read 'the driver reported a problem with the ms virtual wif miniport adapter and turned it off'.  This causes problems with my printer - both wireless and USB connected -  which are only fixed by rebooting.  My network indicator has a yellow blaze on it almost all the time.  Now my computer shows up in the devices and printers area with a yellow exclamation point indicating that there is a prolbem, but troubleshooting does not fix the issue.

I'm ready to throw the computer out - is this a part that can be replaced?  Any ideas?
