Hi, i bought a w510 32gb a couple of days ago, i was very positive about the tablet until i insert a mSD card. The tablet just freeze and i had to power it down and turn it up again, i tried with all kind of microSD card getting to the same problem.

What can i do to fix this?

All the cards i was able to test are category 4, i don't have any one faster than that but i don't think that could be the problem

What happens if you insert the card first, then power on ? I am wondering if the card might be corrupt and that puts the SCSI PNP routine in a loop.

Is this happening with more than one card ? The class is only about speed, I have used a Class 2 for small file transferbefore.

It didn't recognize the card, either of them.
When i insert it in an external card reader and plug it to the usb port it work.
    Can it be driver related?

OK the sdCard reader on a W510 requires its own driver. I'd suggest downloading one of the W510 driver packages from Acer and installing.

Am just installing a new Windows to Go drive and it needed the driver pacakge for the wireless, blue tooth, touch scream, or sdCard reader to work.

Last night i downloaded the drivers package from acer and that didn't work either. Can you provide an address for the sdCard driver only?

Only thing I found was this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976422

The driver files used for an SD card are disk.sys, ehstorclass.sys, and partmgr.sys

Ehstorclass.sys is used for the SDcard and the SSD but is the one I would suspect. The one on my W510 has this:

VERSION_INFO Company Name Microsoft Corporation File Description Enhanced Storage Class driver for IEEE1667 devices File Version 6.2.9200.16384 (win8_rtm.120725-1247) Internal Name EhStorClass.sys Legal Copyright© Microsoft Corporation All rights reserved. Original Filename EhStorClass.sys ProductName Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Product Version 6.2.9200.16384 VarFileInfoTranslation Enhanced Storage Filter Driver Dated 7/25/2012 11.42 pm 68.7 KB

If that looks right then perhaps you have a faulty card reader (All W510s should still be under warrenty).

ps IEEE 1667 coveres removable ("transient") storage devices.

How can i check that padgett?

Open Control Panel > Device Mager > Disk Drives and look for an entry of SD Memory Card (if not you have a different problem). Double click and see if there are any errors of does it say "this device is working properly" ?

At this point I would just click on Driver and then select Uninstall DO NOT check "delete driver".

When done reboot and after a minute it should reinstall. Insert the SD card and see if recognised.

If you still have a problem then it may be a faulty socket. We can't fix hardware online.

Hi padgett, the device appears as mmc Memory card. It says "this device is working properly"

I followed your instructions but it still the same.

    What is the next step?

The MMC memory is the internal either 32 or 64 GB SSD. With a micro SD card inserted you should also see a second entry for a "SD Memory Card".

You can insert the card with Device Manager open and you should see the device tree collapse then reopen with the additional entry.

When i insert the microSD the tablet freezes almost inmediatly and when i restart it with the microSD in place it doesn't recognize it

But it restarts OK with the SD card in place ? There is an Acer/Intel driver inside the driver package that recogises the SD socket (when I run a new OS, it is not there until I apply the Intel Drivers. Have you tried reloading the  W510 driver pack (downloadable from the support.acer.com site) ?

It restart OK but does not read the card, it's like the card is not there.
I already install the driver pack and the bios. How can I reinstall windows? Can I do it with and external CD ROM?
I'm very frustrated with this tablet, I bought it a couple of weeks ago and I haven't been able to use it. It turn on when ever it wants, random freezes up, microSD is not working, etc

It sounds like there are hardware issues with your W510 and that can only be solved by Acer.
