Unfortunately I can't help you very much, but I have an older IBM R51 which also sometimes beeps when it fails to start, which seems to be a motherboard fault.  Since this laptop is older and runs Windows XP, which will not be supported as of next April, I will probably not repair it but replace it.

In your case, it could be that the motherboard is defective, but it might be something else.  Replacing the motherboard requires some skill and knowledge and cost, of course.  As I see it you have 3 options:

    1. Repair the computer, realising that you don't yet know what the cause is or how much that will cost.
    2. Replace the computer, removing your files and settings from the hard drive.  You could try selling the computer as defective, for example on eBay: I would recommend removing the hard drive since you cannot with complete certainty erase all evidence of your passwords, personal settings and so on.  Also, retaining the hard drive means that you can put it in a cheap enclosure ($10 or so) and connect it to a new computer giving you access to your current files.
    3. Live with the problem in the knowledge that the problem has a certain probability of becoming worse and that the computer may suddenly stop working all together.

Personally, I would go with option 2.  In any case, it's rather important to backup your files to an external hard drive and I suggest using a cloud service to store your important ones (I use Google Drive, but be aware that security is limited) to be accessed from any computer or smartphone.  In my experience, laptops used regularly need to be replaced every 3 years or so, so it's good to budget for that.

    Good luck!
