5750g Windows 8 slow fan

Hello,

I am having an issue with my Acer Aspire 5750G. I am not usually a gamer, but under heavy usage, the fan does not  go in high speed, so it ends up overheating and shutting down the laptop.

This problem is only present on Windows 8 operating system. The laptop shuts down, I immediately start the laptop, the fan is 100%, and as soon as I load Windows 8, it goes somewhere at 50% max. In ubuntu the fan stays at 100%.

It seems that only the max speed of the fan is affected, if the laptop is cool, the fan slows down.

Welcome aboard, to both of you. In both cases, it sounds like a software problem, and in both cases it's because you upgraded the operating system. Your rig has a powerful processor and plenty of RAM, but to keep the price as low as you paid, the monitor is not designed for high-end games. When you try to play high-end games, your rig can't handle them.

It is difficult to find high-end Linux games, so if your fan is running 100% in Linux, you have a software problem (although it probably won't hurt anything). When you upgraded from either Vista or 7 (depending on when your machine was manufactured) you lost your drivers. Any new drivers you download are not designed for your equipment.

There are some things you can do:

    1) Merely elevating the two top corners will lower your temperature about 10F.

    2) Use compressed air to carefully blow into the exit vent.

    3) It won't cost much to have a repair shop install a more powerful fan.

    Thank you for your reply,

I just downgraded to Windows 7 and tried to punish the cpu and gpu as much as I could. It didn't power off this time.

So the problem is from the operating system side, Windows 8 drivers  don't manage the fan speed correctly. Maybe they will fix this in 8.1, untill then, we are out of luck.

    Have a nice day.
