I HAVE A DVD PROBLEM WITH WINDOWS 8 ON MY ACER ASPIRE. DO I NEED TO INSTALL A DRIVER?

I Updated/Upgraded from Vista Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro. I just can't get my DVD to work to reinstall my software?

The Acer supplied BIOS lists the DVD/CD as the SATA Primary Slave ID'd as "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM_GH" (the computer says it is "CD/DVD:3S-HL-DT-ST".)  Of course somewhere in my searching it says that my Acer machine has a "SCSI" DVD?

The Online Pundits say that installing the upgrade on Windows 8 Pro to Windows Media Center will get the DVD to work! - It didn't!?!

What kind of System upgrade/update to Windows 8 that tells you that you will have to reinstall some software does not support the machine's DVD to reinstall that software (on the medium that is the most supplied/modern???)  (Microsoft I am ashamed of you not making more of an effort to support people's hardware, who still believe in your abilities (and know you knew people would be put out re-installing their favorite software...))

I just want to get my DVD to install Program files and bring back my software in Windows 8 that I made sure were compatible with Windows 8 (Software) before I updated/upgraded my Acer (Who I have trusted, for decades, going back to when I used to put Desktops and Networks together and no one ever new the hardware was supplied by Acer, the Ultimate Silent Partner) Aspire (Hardware)?
