Open Word doc in Word Starter by double clicking desktop icon.

I have Aspire 5750Z, new July 2012.  Came with Windows 7 home, Word Starter 2010 and Excel Starter 2010 installed.  I have always allowed the installation of Win 7 updates when offered.  No problems until after I installed the Win 7 update offered the morning of Sept. 12, 2013. 

 

Automatic update installed 09-12-13, 10 am CDT.  Prior to installing update, Word documents saved on the desktop opened in Word Starter by double clicking the WORD icon for a file.  After installing this morning's update, the icon for each file is not the prior WORD icon, but instead is the same shape but filled with orange color.  Double clicking the icon does not open the file in Word Starter, but instead takes me to a screen that wants me to buy Office suite.  Now I must go to the file tree, click Desktop, and double click the file name.  That opens the file in Word Starter.  What happened  to my ability to double click the desktop icon and automatically open the file in Word Starter?  How can I get this machine back to that again?

    Roll the system back prior to the updates and only selectively install the Windows Updates.

     

    I'm unable to tell you which update caused this issue.
