Does USB supply power and how much? W3

I need to run a USB microscope.

Power source: 5V DC from USB port Its 5v

    It should work.  Yes, the usb supplies 5 volts.  It will run external drives as well.  Some drives have two usb cords because they need more current than one port can supply.  I have a usb microscope and it works fine.

    The USB 2.0 spec requires 500ma at 5v to be available this is 2.5w. I have found the Clover Trail devices to be marginal on USB power and have a couple of powered hubs for mine that can provide 10w. When the successor comes out hopefully it will be USB 3.0 which requires 900mw to be available.

     

    How much power (mw or ma) does the Microscope need ? Do you need anything else to be available (mouse, keyboard, etc.) ?
