Hello and Help!!!!!!

Just joined, only had my Acer V5-571 for a few weeks and it has been going okay. I left it on last night, only for about 4 hours or so, with the power connected, so it wasn't running on battery power.

When I returned I tapped the touchpad and the screen came on as it normally does. When I came back into the room about 5 minutes later, the screen was black again.

This time when I tapped the touchpad, all I got was a slight flicker and the screen stayed black.

After a few taps all I still had was a black screen, - as panic set in for my new laptop......

I pressed the power button and nothing happened, until I held it down and then it finally switched off altogether.

When I tried to restart, it did and went all the way through the the Windows 8 Tile Page.

Today it has started up again, but I am concerned as to why I had this black screen that I couldn't get rid of, even though the keyboard was still all lit up.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks

Diamond, I'll start with the good news. I've been using computers for about twenty years now, and this has happened to me on several different models, with several different operating systems, and the cure has always been the same:reboot. The problem has never been permanent. So why did it happen?

Maybe your rig was running an update, virus scan, or internal search, and you hit the touchpad at the wrong time. Maybe there was a build-up of Windows errors, and  your rig just got confused. Maybe there was an overheating problem (though I doubt it).

If the problem keeps returning, repost and we'll see what we can do. But it was probably just a fluke.
