Iconia W510 WIFI Problem

Hello All

I have a user who currently is offsite so I am unable to physically touch his device.

It is a Iconia W510 tablet.

The last few days he has had problems and last night he stated he could not attach to a wireless network due to

that fact that his Wireless card was disabled.

This tablet is running Windows 8.

Going through the steps to get to the area where you can use the slider to turn the wireless on or off I am finding that

under the heading Wireless Devices the only options showing are Bluetooth and NFC. WIFI does not even exist under this heading.

Also Airplane Mode is off btw.

Since I believe he is a Standard user on this device I have no other way to even disable, enable or even uninstall it unless I have him log in as an admin.

But my main question is why does the WIFI selection not show under the Wireless Devices heading?

To clarify, from his desktop I have him slide from the right to expose the settings button. Then I have him select Change PC Settings, in the list on the left I have him select Wireless, his WIFI slider button is not there.

It's almost like there is a problem with the wireless device.

I have had him look in the Device Manager and he states the Wireless deivce is there and it does not show him that there is anything wrong like yellow triangles or red X's.

I just wanted to bounce this off of everyone before having him log in as an Admin.

Make an update with the new driver or Bios, on Acer support site.

Unzip file and use the setup.exe in MI folder. Let the W510 plug in AC/DC during all update.

Have him fire up Device Manager and take a look at what it says for the wireless. He can try driver updates and downgrades from there and there should be diagnostic codes as well. Typically when the wrieless doesn't show up it's because there's some issue with drivers or hardware, Windows won't show him the slider unless it's working.

I'd suggest stating with Control panel>Network and Sharing Center>Change Adapter Settings. If the Wireless adapter is there then right click (long hold if no meese) on the entry under "Device Name" (e.g. Broadcom). One of the drop down selections will be "Diagnose". Select that and see what happens.

If the adapter is not listed that is the time to go to Device Manager.
