Acer aspire s3 ultrabook screen fault (very very dark and faint)

The screen on my acer laptop is very very dark and faint. It is unusable unless an external display is used. The laptop is only ever used in the house a maximum of 3 times a week and so has never been dropped or damaged in and way. The laptop is less than 24 months old but is over the 12 month warranty period. however, the fault is obviously a poor component  But my question to the forum is, how long would you expect a laptop to last, what would be a satisfactory lifespan? Bearing in mind they are roughly £600

My laptop is 5 years old and going strongly.  I don't think that that would be anything to particularly boast about. 

In your case I think two years is a little short.

Have you obtained a quote for a repair, from a local shop?
