    Hi Jayfoxpox,

Well congrats on getting the mainboard out, not bad for someone who is not sure what to do !

The thermal paste goes onto the CPU itself.  You need to unscrew the 4 screws holding the thermal module on top of it.  Clean off the old paste, add your new paste, put the thermal module back on ensuring you secure the screws back on following the numbers that should be inscribed into the thermal module, starting with 1 then 2, 3 and finally 4.

There are many videos on youtube on how to apply thermal paste.  If you are using the new artic silver then they say just to put a blob on the middle of the CPU and push the thermal module down on top of it........... no smearing it around or anything.  I have always done this and encountered no problems.

    Good luck ! Smiley Happy
