Looking for a new Acer laptop, concerned about performance

I have an  Acer Aspire AS7551-2531 that I'm looking to replace. Here's what I need:

- Same screen size: 17.3

- Good video performance. I need to be able to watch up to 1080p video without choppiness and distortion, and I need to be able to record with an HD camera at  at least 720p without performance drop (my old Acer can't handle either).

- Preferably Windows 7 but whatever.

- Somewhat cheap.

- Good amount of hard drive space.

I was eyeing the Acer Aspire V3-731-4649. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Frankly you would love the V3. If I remember correctly your system has Windows 7 preinstalled? If so you might not like the Windows 8 interface, but the only V3's I've seen with Windows 7 come with the 32 bit version. I assume Microsoft did this to promote upgrading to Windows 8. I've worked with plenty of V3's and have never had a complaint. They're powerful and reliable. You could also look into an S7, an ultrabook that is more than powerful enough for the average user. With an SSD and plenty of ram you'd be hard pressed to find better systems in their price range.

Thanks. So you can watch/record HD stuff with no problem?

HD Playback in 1080p is absolutely no issue for either of these machines.

thekillshirt, let me help you with Windows 8. At the Start Page, drag the Desktop icon to the top left corner. From now on, you will only have to press Enter to go to the desktop. From the desktop, go online and download the free Classic Shell Start Button. Once installed, your rig will run like Windows 7.

THEN, you can take the time to poke around the Start Page (press the Windows Key) when you feel like it.
