Multiple Core support in BIOS

Hi I am trying to run change the BIOS setting in Acer V3 771G-6662 to support multiple cores. I called Best Buy  Geek Squad (where I also have a warranty) and the moron who answered said they don't support any thing but Windoze, doesn't know what a BIOS is  blah and hung up, I called a second time, and the guy was a little more honest and said they can change the BIOS but I hav to bring in it(no reason why!). Finally I had an online chat with a Geek Squad online support guy who was much mor helpful saying new machines use the UEFI standard but said the same thing, I have to bring the laptop in to where I bought it if I want to change the BIOS. Finally, I chatted online with a much more helpful Acer support person who showed me a link to get rid of UEFI and go back to legacy BIOS boot up. Unfortunately, while that was very helpful, and I commend Acer for being much more help than the NON Geek "Geek" squad Windoze only guys at Best Buy, I need to know how to change the BIOS so as to set up the Intel i5 processor to use all 4 CPU cores I read somewhere that I can run MSCONFIG in Windows8 and setup all 4 cores and even maximize memory. The only problem is that Oracle Viirtual ir Box doesn't use the MSCONFIG Windows 8 setup (not surprisely as it is a virtual machine!). I want to boot up a Debian  Linux distribution called PelicanHPC which runs GNU Octave on all 4 cores and even clusters. Unfortunately, I can't run it in other than 1 core.

Any help would be appreciated. Note I can boot up the ISO file after setting up Legacy bootup in BIOS but prefer to run it under Oracle VirtualBox having had bad experience with dual boot Ubuntu.  I don't want ot run in on LiveCD or install a dual boot1

If anyone can help, much appreciated.

rjf, Old Buddy, let me help you out. You are the owner of a powerful rig with  a lot of high-class hardware installed. If you ever figure out how to get Linux installed, you will be having problems up and down the line. You've started with the fact that Linux cannot support your powerful quad-core CPU.

What high-end Linux software are you planning to run? Your machine does well with high-end games that aren't available on Linux. The highest-level Linux software I can find is for accounting.

Your CPU and video card are both able to change speed automatically, depending on the need and the operating temperature. Finding a Linux OS that can regulate them is going to be difficult, if not impossible.

If you are having trouble with Windows, there are many forums that will help you. But you're taking a dangerous chance on ruining a good machine if you try to switch it to Linux.
