extensa 4630z screen goes dark

Hi!  On my 4 year old Extensa, the screen has started going dark after booting up.  I can see a faint image in the screen, so it is not a complete failure of the lcd.

Having done some research on the web I see three typical causes listed for these symptoms:

1) Bad/sticky lid close switch

2) Bad inverter board (found under the bezel of the lid)

3) bad lighting element in the lcd

I have searched the web, but cannot find a reference to where the lid close switch is located on this laptop (the switch that tells the laptop to go go sleep when the lid of closed).  Can anyone tell me where that switch is located on this model so I can check it???  Thanks!  Pete

The switch is located in different places on different models. To make it more complicated, some are not even contacted by the closed lid; they are connected to a ribbon that makes the contact.
