Aspire V5-122P will not open Office 2013 files

I have had my Aspire for several days now and I cannot open files in Microsoft Excel 2013. I have downloaded all the updates and installed them and Excel still locks up when I try to open files still. I have tried it many times so far and it does it every time and after hours of waiting I have to use task manager to close the program. I was told by another user that he loaded his Office 2013 and had no issues.

I purchased my uint from Best Buy.

What could the problem be? What should I do?

Can you open Excel and start with a new blank worksheet?  Can you save that worksheet and then open it?

My version of Excel 2013 uses file extensions  .xlsx  .   What are the extensions for the files that freeze the program?

I can open a new worksheet in Excel. I have not tried to save a new work sheet. The file I want to open  does the  exstension .xlsx in it.

Was able to go through the basic introduction to the new features of 2013 without a problem as well.

Do open a blank spreadsheet, type some numbers into it and save it.  Then see if you can open it again and can revise it.

For the sheets that you cannot open -  Is it one spreadsheet only, or all previous spreadsheets that you can't open?  If it is one only, is there something odd in its name? Try renaming and see what happens.

    Hi Leho,

I am having the same issue as James it sounds like.  Unable to open documents saved from Excel 2013.  I did as you said and was able to save new worksheet, open it, and revise it but I am unable to open previosly saved excel sheets that I have downloaded and saved from gmail.  Any suggestions?  The documents are in .xlsx

    Thanks,

    Kyle

I don't think that I will be able to offer any more useful advice.

My Excel 2013 allows me to open and save current and previous spreadsheets without difficulty.  Files with xls and xlr extensions open in 'compatibility mode' for me and can be revised and saved.

My best current suggestion is to get into the Excel help files and/or start a chat with Microsoft Support on this topic.

Let us know if either of you have some success.
