I just got a new acer netbook A0756-2840 and upon signing on i entered a password ..being I am not use to windows since i am Apple user. I entered a password and now it is required everytime i log on. This netbook is for my husband and I want to know how to get rid of the password that I used to log on. I do know the password so that's not a problem. Thanks so much!

Shari, you should have Windows 8, and here is how to get rid of the password:

    1) Press the Windows and R keys at the same time, and you will see the "Run" dialogue box.

    2) Type in the word Netplwiz exactly as I spelled it.

3)You will see a box, and it has a check mark next to "Require users to use password." Remove that check mark.

    4) At the bottom of the box, press Apply, and then press Okay.

You can now log in without using a password.

However, Windows 8 will also demand a password when it comes out of Sleep mode:

    1) Take your cursor to the top right corner of the screen, and the Charms Bar will appear.

    2) Click on Settings, which is the last Charm.

    3)  Go to Control Panel

    4)Click on Power Options

    5) On the left side, find "Require a password on wakeup," and click on it.

    6) On the next page, find "Change settings that are currently unavailable," and click on it.

    7) Keep going down the page, and you will see that your computer has selected "Require a password."

    8) Go one more line, and select "Don´t require a password."

    9) At the bottom of the page, click "Save Changes."

In that case, Shari, I'm stuck. I have never known those two methods to fail, and they are identical to what is posted on various Windows 8 forums.
