Acer Aspire Netbook touch screen issues?

My mother just called me, frantic because she did something to her laptop and now the mouse/touchpad doesn't work.  She said she saw an option on the computer to turn on the touch screen, and decided to click on it to see if she liked it.  But now all she has to control the computer with is the keyboard, because the touch screen doesn't work (I wasn't even aware that computer had a touch screen...) and the mouse/touchpad doesn't work.  I had her type in "touch screen" on the start menu/tiles screen, but no relevant settings came up.  I also had her plug a wireless mouse (that we know works just fine on other computers) into the laptop, but that mouse didn't work either.  I'm still pretty new to Windows 8, and not actually being in front of the computer is making solving this issue even more challenging.  I'm pretty sure she has an Acer Aspire One Netbook, but I don't know an exact model number or anything.  Does anyone know of any way to turn off the touch screen mode and get the mouse/touchpad back?  Thanks so much in advance!!!

Turning on the touchscreen should not have disconnected the mouse and trackpad. Have her use the arrow keys to take the pointer to the right side of the screen to get the Charms Bar. From there, go to Settings, and then Control Panel. She might have to go to Systems next. Then go to Mouse and see if she can fix it.

If that doesn't work, have her right-click the bottom left corner and choose System Devices. From there, choose Mouse. Her mouse should then appear under it and have her click that and see if she can turn it back on.
