Weird problem with the above

Summary

Had a problem with the slider power button which became very stiff and eventually couldn’t turn on Laptop. Dismantled the top cover and found that the power board has a small knob which fits into the slider and this knob broke. So slider was moving and nothing happened. Replaced the power button board, the switch fits perfectly in the slider, I get a power light on the touchpad /keyboard cover but laptop will not power on. I also replaced the palmrest cover as the slider itself was broken where it holds the small spring in place. Any clues?

Having gone this far with the problem I thought maybe get a new motherboard. The problem is that there seems to be quite a few variations of the motherboard and appears that several types fit the bill- aspire and travelmate.

My case model is TravelMate 5740 -332G25

The Acer sticker says TravelMate 5740 Model NEW50

The motherboard has a number of stickers including NEW50 L33 and MB.TVF02.001

Does anybody have a list of motherboards that would fit this case and my existing i3 processor? Is there any more technical info needed to ascertain the boards that would fit. Thanks for any advice
