"0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0" only on cold start

I have an Acer Extensa 4620z (4620-4605) that recently started to boot up with the error "0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0".  When it occurs I just power cycle and it boots fine.  I tried reseating the drive without any improvement.  Yet this only happens from a cold boot and always starts fine after the reboot.  When the laptop is up and running there are no obvious issues.  Any idea on what the problem could be?  Why does it only fail the first time?  I didn't want to run off and buy a new drive if it is likely to be something else.

Thanks!

The Extensa 4620-4605 shipped in 2007.  It sounds like it could be an issue with the hard drive, the mainboard or the hard drive connector itself.  With intermittant issues, it can be difficult to diagnose, especially without looking at the system.

Given that you are still able to boot the system, make sure you have all your personal data backed up.
