Slow WiFi issue

There seem to be people reporting this on many platforms. The question is whether it  is generic or is just some examples of each. My two Aspire netbooks and the W510 are fine but the W3 is poor (unless I connect an external USB WiFi device) and direcly related to the distance from the hotspot.

I see some improvement by turning WMM off but that just improved from horrible to poor (3X slower than others).

The last time I saw something like this was on a notebook that had the antenna wire disconnected.

At the same time I see people mentioning the problem with several different devices and not just the W3 which leads me to wonder if all (probably all current Acer Windows boxes use Broadcom WiFi) or just a few are experiencing this behavior.

I also wonder if only people with big pipes (over 10 MB/S download) would notice.

YWTK.

My W700, about 35' through two rooms and a hallway from the router, shows four bars and speedtests in at about 15MB down and 3MB up. That's around half the speed from my hardwired desktop, but still quite usable.

This is my result, done in landscape mode, router close to me, so full bars. Internet speed is 35 mb/s (theoretical). I don't see any problem with my w3.
