Hi, I am an older (72) lady with a new laptop which has windows 8.   I am loving the touch screen but totally dislike having to log in each time I decide to use my computer.   Is there a way to disable this at the beginning of each session?

Thanks! Woman Frustrated

Many disgruntled users, including me, have complained that they disabled the password requirement, yet Windows 8 still demands it some of the time. That´s because when your computer wakes up from Sleep mode, it demands a password.

    1) Take your cursor to the top right corner of the screen, and the Charms Bar will appear.

    2) Click on Settings, which is the last Charm.

    3)  Go to Control Panel

    4)Click on Power Options

    5) On the left side, find "Require a password on wakeup," and click on it.

    6) On the next page, find "Change settings that are currently unavailable," and click on it.

    7) Keep going down the page, and you will see that your computer has selected "Require a password."

    8) Go one more line, and select "Don´t require a password."

    9) At the bottom of the page, click "Save Changes."

Yes, but it takes a little time. First, you have to remove your password requirement from logging in, and then you have to remove it from coming out of sleep mode.

    1) Press the Windows and R keys at the same time, and you will see the "Run" dialogue box.

    2) Type in the word Netplwiz exactly as I spelled it.

3)You will see a box, and it has a check mark next to "Require users to use password." Remove that check mark.

    4) At the bottom of the box, press Apply, and then press Okay.

You can now log in without using a password.

If you want to remove the password requirement when you come out of sleep mode, read my next post.

Thank you Vince53 for the great directions to solve my problem, it worked just fine.   I now am able to log on without the password each time.   I am loving my new Acer laptop as well as Windows8, you are never too old to learn a few new things.
